Target pays college students to give it some Facebook loving


Target logoThe scandal: When a big important company like Target wants to shill for itself online, it doesn’t send its CEO out pimping himself anonymously, as Whole Foods CEO John Mackey was found to have done last summer. It hires college kids to spam Facebook with notes about how cool Target is.

The meta-scandal, via MinnMon: The story was first done locally by The Deets blogger Ed Kohler, here and here, and Kohler also helped Strib reporter Jackie Crosby background her story about it–but received no credit in the Strib for beating them to the story or helping unearth it.

The meta-meta-scandal: On Target, the Gita Sitaramiah-authored Pi Press blog devoted exclusively to Target news (and previously covered at the Mole), has not breathed a word of this–in fact, it hasn’t been updated at all since November 29!
